What… The… Dirt…

I think we've hit rock bottom.  This is officially the worst any part of our house has ever looked.

Dirt trenches for plumbing

We're hiring out the plumbing for the drains which will be in the new bathroom and new laundry room sink.  Doing the vents right can get tricky and we don't want our first DIY plumbing job to be covered in sand and concrete.  If it starts leaking in a year it would be a pretty big mess to fix.  This falls under the "over our heads" rule on our DIY vs. hire out criteria.

Plumbing is going to be the most expensive part of our basement renovation but to lighten the load we jack hammered the concrete and dug out all the dirt ourselves.  Once the drains are in we'll put the sand back around the drains and pour concerete on top.  Yikes.  This is a lot of work  for a toilet, sink, and shower.  We hope it's worth it!

  1. I live in south Mpls and have a large unfinished laundry room. I hope to stack the machines and add a bathroom to it one day, sooner than later. I’m interested to see how it turns out for you as I know what your going through will be in my future should I ever get to do it!! Good luck!

  2. Wow what a mess! It will all be worth it in the end though. And basement 3/4 baths are the best. We’re using ours everyday since both of our other bathrooms are demoed right now.

  3. Wow! Isn’t is crazy to see part of you house torn apart like that? It will for sure be worth it to have an extra bathroom with a shower too! I wish we had a 2nd shower :(
