DIY Wedding – Different kind of guestbook
Believe it or not, the picture above is our guest book! We thought about buying a normal guest book but somewhere along the line we decided that creating something new would be fun. However, to coordinate with the rest of our wedding, this new creation needed to be old. After a brain-storming session we landed on the idea of recreating antique Minnesota postcards and having guests write us a message on the back.
The idea is easy enough, but how do you go about recreating antique postcards? I searched around and found some sources for the images. (When doing your research make sure you get the rights to reproduce any images as they could be copy-written.) Here are two of my favorites:
I also designed the backs to resemble a realistic post card with some tweeks to make it a place to write a message and gather guest information (address and birthday.)
We printed both sides on antiqued card stock and cut them apart with a paper cutter. We were amazed at how realistic they looked!
We also had our photographer's set up a make-shift photo booth so we could get shots of all our guests. The final guest book will be a scrapbook album with 4" by 6" photo pages to contain our guest photos side-by-side with each guest's corresponding post card message.
The cost of paper, printing the post cards, printing 4x6 photos, and the photo book came to just under $100. Smile!

I actually am doing something similar! I’m collecting postcards from everywhere I travel and going to have them write on the back and provide a list of things to write (where they met us, best marriage advice, etc.)
